FSSAI registration comes in three tiers — Basic, State and Central — set by turnover and by the scale of the operation. Trading in food without the right tier is an offence, not merely a lapse.

Common questions
Which tier applies to me?
Broadly by turnover — Basic for the smallest operators, State in the middle band, Central for the largest and for importers. We assess it before filing rather than guessing.
