Trademark Registration

Exclusive rights to your brand name in your class.

Reviewed by CA Hitendra Pal Singh· company law, tax and complianceLast reviewed

A registered trademark gives you the exclusive right to use the mark for the goods or services in its class, and the standing to stop others. Registration takes a long time, but protection runs from the filing date.

Common questions

Can I use ™ straight away?

Yes, as soon as you have applied. ® may only be used once the mark is actually registered.

What is a class?

Goods and services are divided into 45 classes. Protection applies within the classes you register, so a mark registered for clothing does not cover software.
